G-LUX ★ the MONKEY MONK
Alright, here's the part that I'm sure most of you have been anticipating! It's time for the Golden Agers, aka the groups from Arashi to KAT-TUN. They are the current face of the johnny's world--especially Arashi--so I'm sure most of this post won't be much new information, ahaha. However, just so you guys know, I had to remove myself from actively participating in fandom at the end of 2007. I was in the midst of catching up for a long time (which is part of the reason this part of the post has taken so long), but eventually I just gave up and completely missed several months of fandom goings-on. x: Even while I was away, I did generally know what went on in fandom, but because this era of johnny's is the most active, I was certainly never particularly up-to-date.

So if anyone sees any inconsistencies or would like to contribute information, please feel free to do so! Actually, for all parts of the pimp post, please feel free to contribute! I do not claim to be the johnny's authority by any means. XD I'm only mentioning how embarrassingly behind on the johnny's fandom I am so that I can have an excuse for things that may not make sense or seem dated, lol.

Also, I know that there are actually very few real Golden Age juniors who have debuted (like, ten, lol), but I lump everyone who debuted with them into the umbrella group "Golden Age groups." Think of it this way--the groups from Arashi to KAT-TUN are pretty much the "Arashi-era groups," much in the same way that the groups from SMAP-KinKi Kids are "SMAP-era groups." However, Arashi's huge popularity is a bit too recent for me to feel comfortable calling this the Arashi-era just yet, but everyone in Arashi were Golden Agers, and a few people from groups who debuted after them were Golden Agers, so it makes more sense to me to refer to those groups as the "Golden Age groups" even though Arashi is the only real Golden Age group, if you will. (I think takitsuba is complicated. XD;) but if we're considering the Golden Age, then we have to look at Arashi, which is the culmination of the popularity of the juniors at the time. So even though KAT-TUN didn't have much to do with the Golden Age itself, its members were around during that time and are lumped together with their more-related-to-the-era predecessors. It isn't quite as clean as the SMAP-era groups, but what can you do?

Essentially, through these posts I am attempting to place each johnny's group into the context of the history of the entire jimusho. I realize that in doing so I am going to be oversimplifying a lot of very complex history, but this is price I have to pay for making something so broad. XD So even though I would say myself that the individual members of KAT-TUN and the group itself weren't pivotal to the Golden Age, I would consider them closer to relics of the Golden Age than products of the New Age if that makes sense. XD so again, please feel to add more to what I have to say! Even if I wanted to, I can't say it all! so talk to me. (: johnny's has a rich history~ haha.

But enough of my rambling! On with the post!

off we go! )

hi. (:

I felt like making a post but I don't really have anything to post about. hul! so I guess I'll use this opportunity to let some emotions out of my heart. XD

edit made public at the request of [info]zenfu haha.

1. Seungri's album in two days! or at least the ~single teaser~ whatever the hell that means. YG pushed back the release date a week (to the surprise of no one), but I hope there's more to this "single teaser" than what I'm imagining--or at least that there are more things in store for me before the release of the actual album a week later. I'mma be pissed otherwise, YG. lmao. I have to say, after watching the Big Bang documentary, my respect for Seungri (and the others) has increased by a lot. I now feel happy to be Seungri's same age chingu. (:

2. omg I am so sorry for the X.I.S spam the past few days on twitter! but don't blame me; blame [info]zenfu. XD enabler!!! my heart is lost though. ): proof. hul. stuff )

okay I should go finish my Japanese homework. XD sooo happy birthday papaguchi (39)! (: and since it's that time in Japan, happy birthday kinoppy (43?) & mabo (33)! 8D old men huhu.

sooo I've been working on a Beast space pirate AU, which is...going. Neither particularly well nor poorly--it just is. XD So I decided I should take a little break, but nothing was really coming out for the past several days, but then suddenly this kiseung happened. XD I've actually been meaning to write them for [info]aircrashes for like...ever (since at least November, lol), since she's the one who made me board this ship in the first place. :| So after a couple false starts, I somehow managed to write this today! which is kind of amazing for me, because usually all I can manage in a day is at most 1000 words. XD;

so here is this kiseung! some notes at the end, as usual, I guess. XD Feel free to point out any errors! I tried my best, but sometimes it's not good enough, lol. enjoy! (:

I don't often write, but this idea happened to occur when [info]nakchi was encouraging me to do just that. I was sitting on this concept for three months before I even acted on it, and then it took me six months to get it all out. XD I guess I'm proud of it (it's the longest thing I've ever written ;~;), but I did kind of...let the original focus get out from under me and allow it to change direction. haha. But I guess if it takes a person nine months to write ~15000 words, the original focus may change a bit. XD

There will be some notes at the end of the third part. (I had to split it up because of livejournal...hahaha. Baby's first too-long livejournal post!) And please feel free to point out any errors. (: I tried my best, but sometimes I still fail. XD

hello!

I told [info]nakchi that I'd make a Beast pimp post. :D So I did.

edit 101031 so I've decided to keep this updated. To a certain extent, anyway. XD If you have favorite song performances or radio perfs (this especially), please link me! :D I took the time to watch everything I could find when I first made this pimp post, but they've done two rounds of promotional activities so now there's a lot and I don't have the time. ): so please, contribute! otherwise there won't be much beyond the Bad Girl/early Shock days, haha.

basically [info]practices told me to make a SHINee post for her, and I did because I am weak. XD That, and SHINee is one of my favorites, ahaha. This isn't a real pimp post because it's mostly peripheral, so think of it as an introductory post? ahaha.

Minho finds the prospect extremely interesting!

so I told [info]ichigo_246 that I would make a Super Junior introductory post for her because I am a slaaaave. This is not a pimp post! This is a get-yourself-acquainted-with-some-Koreans post because A) I am getting around to working on the johnny's pimp post, and B) I have no real desire to create an involved pimp post for a group of thirteen boys, two extras, and four subgroups. D:

edit sooo imageshack was hacked and a bunch of my images were messed up. -__-; so I deleted those and will re-add them eventually. fixed!

G-LUX ★ the MONKEY MONK
Hello! Welcome to Part 2.5 of the Johnny's Entertainment Pimp Post! This part details the Golden Age, which is sometimes called the Golden Age of Johnny's Juniors. This isn't a continuation of Part 2, and is instead more of a link from Part 2 to Part 3, the latter of which will concentrate on what I call the Golden Age groups or the Golden Agers. That is, almost all boys in the groups from Arashi to KAT-TUN were juniors during the Golden Age period.

To preface, there really isn't that much written information out there about the Golden Age (probably because it's more of an unofficial thing, haha), nor did I write over 4000 words about how Takki revolutionized Japan as a junior with his pedo for Pi or something. XD So corrections & contributions are welcome! I don't claim to be the johnny's authority, ahaha.

on with it, then! )

So in the same way that SMAP separates the daisenpai from the senpai, the Golden Age defines the line between the senpai and its participants. (That is, Arashi does not act as the Golden Age version of SMAP (even though they kind of are, haha) because it's not solely their fault that there was a new era; in fact, that title more appropriately belongs to Takki.)

...I feel like this is a rather weak ending, but I can't think of good conclusion. XD; sorry, ahaha.

Part 1.5: The Importance of SMAP
Part 2: The Post-SMAP, Pre-Golden Age Era

G-LUX ★ the MONKEY MONK
It is now time for more familiar territory! The post-SMAP, pre-Golden Age era groups. I'll talk about the Golden Age in depth later, but by "post-SMAP, pre-Golden Age" I mean SMAP through kinki even though SMAP can't technically come after itself. XD; At any rate we (or at least I xD) call these groups the senpai groups because the only daisenpai left in the company (as musicians that is) are Matchy, Kinoppy, Akkun, & Kenichi, and the only group older than SMAP is Shonentai (also daisenpai). That's only seven men left from the first twenty years of je! :o

Anyway, now that we've moved away from the giant daisenpai era, I guess I should explain how I'm going to go about doing this. Rather than divvying up the groups into an easy time line like 90s!je or 21stcentury!je, I consider debuted groups' eras to be defined as their time as juniors. Tonisen (older half of V6), SMAP, and half of TOKIO all joined in the late 80s, and kamisen (younger half of V6), kinki, and what's left of TOKIO all joined in 1993 or earlier (Okada not included). So you can see there is a little bit of a gap, but the older group members were juniors together and the younger group members were juniors together, so it works out in the end. ((:

But that's how I'll be doing it. I'm explaining myself to avoid confusion (though I may have just created more, haha) and let everyone know why I'm excluding Arashi from this part of the post even though it would make a more even division if I did it using twentieth & twenty-first century groups. oh well. can't win 'em all. xD

so let's begin! )

like an idiot I lost my half-completed MA pimp post. ): I had spent like thirteen hours on it already, sad. Because I am determined to get through the Golden Age by the end of my holiday break, I am spitting out pimp posts left and right. XD This is a continuation of Part 1 of the Epic JE Pimp Post, kind of. Consider it a lead-in into the next batch (which will be JE in the nineties sans Arashi) cause this post and its three brethren (to come eventually XD) are my fillers. Yes, there are fillers to this pimp post because JE has done much more than conquer Japan and drain our wallets. Johnny and his boys revolutionized Japan, and it all began with SMAP. As much as I love the daisenpai, and they were certainly pioneers in the redefinition of the male & female constructs in Japan, it was Kimura Takuya who changed everything, and SMAP went along for the ride.

I apologize in advance if I start rambling or appearing creepy; when I hit 1000 words I asked [info]consequences (because I'm doing this because she asked me to) how long too long was, and she told me to 'go on as much [I'd] like.' So, you can blame her. :D

SMAP Owns the World

this is me, talking a lot about JE to stimulate discussion )

Don't worry; my next fillers will be less stream of consciousness and blubbery and confusing, haha. I also apologize for seeming at all creepy when talking about Taku; he's not my favorite smappy, but for some reason I just get really, really creepy over him. XD;;

So you want to learn about Johnny's, eh?

I know how it goes. You're watching a jdrama one day and the op/ed theme catches your fancy, or the male lead looks oh-so-scrumptious. You think to yourself, 'Well, I'd like some of that!' You find out he's part of some group called KAT-TUN (cartoon?) or perhaps NEWS (of what?) or even Arashi (is that supposed to mean something?), and suddenly people are throwing out weird phrases (what's a car shrimp?) or calling the boys strange names (pi = pee? Ohmiya SK?), and you don't really know what to do with it all. And, to top it all off, you realize that there are more groups and they all somehow know each other and what the heck is a johnny's?

Don't worry; we've all been there! Unfortunately, we've all been there and were left scouring the internet for scraps of information because we were too afraid to ask around in fandom, end up biased from fanhate, and somehow never learn about any groups from the pre-SMAP era because one can't learn about JE without learning about Kimura Takuya or watching Nakai make fun of your favorite on Utaban.

This has to stop! I am here to give you your (j)education. A brief overview of the intricate world of Johnny's Jimusho, that is, because I know a little bit about everyone, but I couldn't tell you Aiba's favorite color like I'm sure some Arashi fans can. (: Anyway, without further ado, I present to you the

so I infected [info]consequences's soul with jarkness and then proceeded to take her boots away, so I promised her several months ago that I'd upload all of my ABC-related media as compensation. I actually had everything uploaded but kept forgetting about it, and then so much time had passed that I decided to make it up to her further by making this into a sort of...pimp post, I guess. And so, we have this, an enthusiastic collection of some information and media that I would like to call "I before E except after C" or simply "The Kitagawas like Acronyms Too Much." (Although "Acrobat Boys Club" is less of a disaster than "Bokutachi Osaka Yankee Shounen," it is still rather unfortunate.)

wait, so what the heck is this even about? that paragraph just made no sense )

So I hope all of that information didn't put you to sleep! cause now? now it's time for some lulz )
